Lake Tishomingo
Lake Tishomingo was established in 1948 in Hillsboro, Missouri. It covers roughly 119 acres and is the home of a loving lake community. Many on the lake say that the name Tishomingo means “Healing Waters.” On this lake, residents and visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming, fishing, and water sports. Along with these activities, the lake holds a number of annual events that have generated high engagement and excitement over the years. These include the Poker Run, Spring Fling, and Fourth of July Weekend. This weekend includes a boat parade put on by lake residents and an extraordinary firework show.
In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s before the lake was filled, the Dahl Stream flowed through the bottom of a deep ravine that is now where Tishomingo stands today. The original residents of the area were the Chickasaw Indian Tribe, whose last warrior chief was Chief Tishomingo. The Chickasaws lived in what is today northeast Mississippi. Their land extended west to the Mississippi River and north to the Ohio River until 1837 when them and the Choctaw tribe were relocated to Oklahoma.
